Your opportunity:

The Technoscience Research Unit (TRU) is an Indigenous-led and interdisciplinary hub for creative and critical social science, humanities, and design research concerning science and technology, with a strength in Indigenous-led research, environmental justice, and data/AI ethics. The TRU is affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Faculty of Information, and the Acceleration Consortium. The TRU hosts an Indigenous Environmental Data Justice (EDJ) Lab, which does community-based work, organizes public events and workshops, and supports the research of students, faculty and community researchers. The administration of TRU is with the Department of History. The TRU is particularly dedicated to fostering Indigenous Science and Technology Studies as well as supporting BIPOC, 2SLGBTQA+, and community researchers. (TRU) is committed to supporting individuals in enhancing their skills for contributing to the work of our indigenous community based research.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator , the Research and Program Administrator will be responsible for day-to-day administration and management of research grants, the preparation of grants for a research community that is collaborative and involves Indigenous community based methods. The position works with oversight of the Department Manager, in the Department of History on financial and administrative activities.

This position has responsibility for coordinating research management activities, and coordinating and preparing research grant applications, tracking milestones and deadlines. Work includes facilitating communication between research participants, providing administrative support to the research activities , budgeting and financial processing, creating contracts and timesheets for casual staff, preparing expense reimbursements. The incumbent also prepares standard reports to assist the Principal Investigators with financial planning and reconciling.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating funding/grants and the funding/grants application processes; tracking milestones and deadlines
  • Overseeing tasks related to the production and dissemination of communications materials
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Verifying research funding proposals are complete, accurate and adhere to sponsor guidelines
  • Planning and administering expenditures, monitoring, recording, reconciling and reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts; preparing and processing expense reimbursements
  • Preparing payroll records and processing payroll
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in a related field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years\' of relevant experience in project management, research grant or financial administration , preferably in a university, or at an indigenous or non-profit organizations.
  • Experience providing administration of research or projects.
  • Experience assisting in preparing the content of grant applications.
  • Ability to work with financial and administrative processes with an approach that respects indigenous research protocols, and knowledge systems.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs and dynamics of different community-based research projects and be responsive to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Unit\'s values of access, reciprocity, community engagement, social justice, and excellence in research.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Planning and coordinating skills with demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and facilitate others to do so.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

  • Experience processing financial transactions and monitoring and reconciling research accounts.
  • Lived experience and/or active involvement with Indigenous and other communities on initiatives or programming that advance the relevant community
  • Experience interpreting, applying, and advising on financial and research granting agency guidelines and the University\'s Guide to Financial Management.
  • Experience processing financial and payroll transactions and preparing financial reconciliations, analyses, and recommendations.
