Job Summary
Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DMNB) is one of the three campuses of Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. The main administrative office is located on the UNB Campus in Saint John, NB. DMNB offers a continuum of education programming for 160 New Brunswick students over the 4-year undergraduate program. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with additional oversight from the Assistant Dean, DMNB Research on research related matters, the Research and Facilities Operations Manager oversees the administrative coordination of research portfolio for the campus and assumes responsibility for the physical facilities at DMNB.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise with the Medical Research Development Office (MRDO) to ensure alignment of all applicable policies and process, specifically as it relates to annual equipment funding, animal care costs, travel costs, and ongoing laboratory costs.
Support DMNB principal investigators to help navigate and resolve issues related to supervision of staff, equipment renewal, by liaising with appropriate contacts and subject matter experts within Dalhousie University.
Oversee annual budget for laboratory costs, as directed by the Chief Operating Officer, including developing forecasts, reporting on actuals, and providing explanations for variances.
Working with stakeholders to determine the long-term requirements and identifies overall strategies for the optimal use of space at the DMNB campus in Saint John as well as spaces assign to the DMNB program at hospital distributed throughout New Brunswick.
Manage facilities projects, liaising with applicable stakeholders, developing project plans, tracking progress and managing the schedule for the duration of the project.
Supervise a team of technical and clerical employees.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree with a minimum of five years' experience in an operational administrative leadership role in a university environment or other complex, multi-dimensional organization or institution (or and equivalent combination of training and experience).
Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Experience in facility operations and management, with the ability to work independently, make decisions and provide leadership in a multi-site, multi-stakeholder environment.
Strong knowledge of project management/change management principles.
Demonstrated experience successfully coaching, developing and supervising others, preferably in a unionized environment.
Strong financial and analytical skills with expert knowledge of office software including technical experience in excel spreadsheets required.
Assets
