The Position:

The Research & Business Intelligence Officer is a valuable member of the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s Campaign Operations & Business Intelligence Team.

Under the leadership of the Director Campaign Operations & Business Intelligence, the Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s overarching mission and the advancement of its goals through providing support to core fundraising operations functions, including prospect research, prospect management, pipeline management and analytics.

Key areas of Responsibility:

Prospect Research & Prospect Management

  • Carry out strategic, accurate and timely prospect research, which may include prospect profiles, prospect identification, review & qualification, targeted screening, etc.
  • Investigate and analyze complex forms of information for the development of comprehensive and strategic briefings to support development activities.
  • Align prospective donors\xe2\x80\x99 interests with The Royal\xe2\x80\x99s organizational and strategic priorities.
  • Conduct and support research and analytics projects, which may involve trend analysis, environmental scans, economic trends, competitive analysis, as well as pipeline and financial analysis.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to ethical prospect research practices and produce accurate, insightful research and data-driven work.
  • Establish a strong prospect pipeline that leads to relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Support a \xe2\x80\x98moves management\xe2\x80\x99 tracking system to support fundraisers.
Data Analytics & Management
  • Support an information driven culture by deriving conclusions and identifying trends through analysis of internal and external data.
  • Implement ongoing prospect development strategy and data integrity initiatives.
  • Design and produce regular and ad-hoc auditing reports to ensure data integrity of key prospect data, including ratings, assignments, cultivation approaches, proposals, and prospect groups.
  • Manage the collection, storage, maintenance and retrieval of donor and stakeholder insights.
  • Ensure a high level of data quality and integrity in Raiser\xe2\x80\x99s Edge through timely and accurate data entry, record maintenance and prospect tracking.
  • Provide recommendations on the development of standard operating procedures related to management of prospect data and data to support the tracking of fundraising activities.
Business Intelligence
  • Support the development of customised, usable dashboards and reports in QlikSense.
  • Learn and fully understand the data landscape of the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s business systems.
  • Understand the end-to-end life cycle of our data to effectively review and validate the data within it relevant to business intelligence reporting.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to architecture/design discussions and decisions.
  • Gather end user reporting and dashboard requirements.
  • Support users with the navigation and interpretation of dashboards.
  • Communicate insights from data across the organization to influence improvements to standard operating procedures.
  • Support the creation of the management information strategy and create standard operating procedures relevant for business intelligence.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for system improvement and business intelligence enhancements.

Qualifications & Key Competencies
  • A university degree combined with a minimum of three years of experience in a not-for-profit with a focus on prospect research.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of complex information systems, data analytics, business intelligence tools (Qlik Sense an asset), prospect tracking, fundraising, research and prospect management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience in prospect research using a variety of online information sources such as SEDAR, SEDI, iWave, Grant Connect, CharityCAN and Directory of Directors.
  • Understanding of Canadian business landscape, financials and corporate annual reports.
  • Understanding and practical experience of effectively reviewing data for reporting needs.
  • Superior computer and data analysis skills within a complex CRM database (Raiser\xe2\x80\x99s Edge preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including advanced fluency in spreadsheet manipulation.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.
  • Proven training and coaching skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team and with colleagues to achieve specific goals.
  • Tact in handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion; follow and promote APRA\xe2\x80\x99s ethical guidelines for the collection and use of information.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
Salary scale for this position is $65,070 - $71,000 annually, commensurate with experience, as well as a competitive benefits package and a defined benefit pension.
