The Policing and Security Branch, within the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, provides central oversight of policing, law enforcement and the security industry in B.C., and develops and administers public safety initiatives dedicated to the protection of British Columbians. The Branch is responsible for ensuring adequate and effective levels of policing, and superintending law enforcement. The Strategic Initiatives unit functions to support this responsibility to ensure that policing programs and legislation are meeting the needs of all communities in BC.

The Research and Engagement Officer provides research support to the Policy Analyst, Community Relations advisor, and Director of Policy and Engagement responsible for the cross-partner engagement and development of policy. The research and coordination activities will engagement activities with partners from various sectors, including First Nations and Indigenous organizations across the province. The research is also required to analyze and develop strategic policy that leads to legislative change or significantly refines, enhances or improves upon the strategic initiatives in the Policing Security Branch. The Research Officer conducts research and analysis of issues to support policy analysis, policy advisory services and evaluation of issues impacting the branch\xe2\x80\x99s legislation, policy and programs.

Job Requirements:
  • Diploma in business administration, public administration, social sciences, law, economics, indigenous relations or a related field and 1 year or more related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience conducting research and complex analysis to support the development of policy or the evaluation of programs.
  • Experience preparing and delivering clear and concise analyses both orally and in writing.
  • Experience coordinating and communicating with diverse stakeholders.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience conducting research and analysis on issues prioritized by equity seeking communities (i.e.: BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, Persons with a Disability).
  • Experience working in partnership with equity seeking communities (i.e.: BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, Persons with a Disability).
  • Experience working on complex cross government policy and programs.
  • Experience providing advice and/or assistance in the use and interpretation of complex social and public safety information.
