The Opportunity:
The Windsor Star is looking for an experienced, energetic and digitally savvy reporter who will help drive robust coverage in print and online. In this role you will provide a well-rounded approach to fast-paced journalism in a variety of functions: writing, reporting, visuals, and publishing work through social media. The ideal candidate will be a self-starting newshound with a positive attitude who is open to working nights and weekends, who thrives on deadline, who follows current trends, and who shows an ability to adapt to an ever-changing digital environment. Knowing the ins and outs of the Windsor/Essex County area is an asset.
What you'll do:

• Cover all aspects of the Windsor/Essex County area and write engaging web posts, well-researched news and feature stories to deadlines that can be in minutes, not hours.

Come up with story ideas, identify trending topics and quickly turn them into compelling multimedia content.
Craft and optimally present engaging, multi-platform stories.
Research and collect information from both traditional and non-traditional sources.
Sift through data and online resources to find hidden, untold stories.
Get the news out first, but also get it right.
Who you are:

• You are enthusiastic about experimenting with emerging storytelling platforms.

You are hard-working, initiative-taking, enthusiastic team player who prizes collaboration.
You are skilled in helping the newsroom expand across multiple formats and platforms: mobile, audio, video, images, etc.
You have the desire to listen to, learn from and collaborate with readers.
You are savvy about distributing news via a variety of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Qualifications:

• Proven success in producing well-written, well-researched copy.

Understanding of multimedia process and requirements.
Ability to produce compelling images that tell the story.
The ability to work comfortably in an uncertain environment, and to make clear and firm decisions.
Endless energy and the sincere desire to excel.
