The Hill Times is hiring a permanent, full-time reporter in Ottawa to work on a small team producing our daily subscriber newsletter, Politics This Morning.


The reporter will work from Sunday to Thursday. The Hill Times is a hybrid work environment, and the reporter will be expected to work from our office near Parliament Hill at least two or three times per week.


The reporter will serve as the lead writer for Politics This Morning on regular days each week, and as a contributing writer on others. The reporter will be expected to contribute segments of original news reporting, colour/feature writing, and information about what\xe2\x80\x99s happening in politics and government from a range of sources.


The reporter will also be expected to regularly contribute news reporting to The Hill Times\' website and to our twice-weekly newspaper as required. The reporter must be able to occasionally work into the early evenings.

The Hill Times is a daily online news service and twice-weekly newspaper in Ottawa covering Parliament Hill, the federal government, and federal politics. Our readership includes cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, and their staff; federal public servants; political insiders; lobbyists; foreign diplomats posted to Canada; industry associations; authors; journalists; and academics. We go inside federal politics in a way no one else does.


Politics This Morning is The Hill Times\xe2\x80\x99 daily newsletter for subscribers. It tells our readers what is happening in politics and government in the day ahead, from a sometimes-irreverent, but always authoritative point of view. It also offers segments of original news reporting, policy analysis, and insight into the people who drive politics and government in Ottawa. It\xe2\x80\x99s a popular daily read. Qualifications
The winning candidate will demonstrate an ability to write well, with a clear voice and attention to detail, and to meet daily deadlines. Energy and initiative to meet people, to read through policy documents and reports, and to find news are essential.


Assets:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Parliament Hill/federal government; previous coverage of these areas would be a strong asset.
  • Journalism degree or diploma, and previous daily/weekly reporting experience (or commensurate experience, with no degree/diploma).
  • Knowledge of CP style.
  • An ability to speak, write, and read French.
  • Knowledge of the WordPress content management system.
