CBC P.E.I. is looking for a reporter/editor to join our team.
This is a permanent, part-time position based in Charlottetown, P.E.I. The regular hours for this shift are Thursday and Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
Your role
The successful candidate will write and/or package material for the CBC P.E.I. website and other platforms, ensuring they reflect the news of the day accurately and that any breaking or developing news is published in a timely fashion.
You maintain exceptional skill in writing, editing and packaging for online. You are also able to write, edit or perform content for radio or video platforms. You may be assigned to chase and/or update breaking news as needed.
You are knowledgeable about CBC journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices. You demonstrate initiative and independent judgment.
You thrive in working as part of a team and cooperating with the rest of the newsroom, including CBC P.E.I.s various platforms.
Key Tasks:
Writes, edits, packages, and publishes digital content xe2x80x94 including text stories, video content and audio xe2x80x94 clearly and concisely.
Ensures the website and stories adhere to the priorities of the day.
Chases developing and breaking news.
Coordinates with the rest of the newsroom, including our assignment desk.
Re-writes material as necessary to make it more relevant to digital audiences.
Selects photos and video/audio clips to accompany online stories.
Edits material written by others and/or items produced by others.
Prepares and writes articles and headlines from information provided by reporters, wire copy, or original sources.
Decides which elements should be included in an item, their order, length and sequence. Creates elements as required.
Contributes and pitches ideas or program content; participates in the preparation of program objectives for both local and national pages.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
University degree or equivalent.
Minimum two years of reporting experience, including proven knowledge of digital content management systems.
Demonstrated understanding of digital publishing trends and audience habits.
Knowledge of reporting and writing daily news stories.
Ability to change and adapt to a changing media landscape.
Ability to work as part of a team, and coach others who are not primarily assigned to digital.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail.
Knowledge of the political & cultural landscape of P.E.I.
