Position Overview:
The Plumber at Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing plumbing systems throughout the property. As part of the Engineering team, the Plumber ensures all plumbing-related issues are addressed efficiently to maintain the highest level of guest comfort and safety. This role requires expertise in luxury hotel standards, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the hotel's infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities: Plumbing Maintenance and Repairs:
• Inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and gas systems.
• Respond promptly to plumbing-related service requests from guests and staff, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations.
• Repair and replace fixtures such as sinks, toilets, faucets, and water heaters.
• Unclog drains and pipes using appropriate tools and methods.
Installation and Upgrades:
• Install new plumbing fixtures and systems in guest rooms, common areas, kitchens, and other facilities as needed.
• Assist in the installation of energy-efficient plumbing systems to align with the hotel's sustainability initiatives.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors for large-scale plumbing projects.
Compliance and Safety:
• Ensure compliance with local plumbing codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Regularly test plumbing systems to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
• Follow all safety protocols to prevent hazards during repairs and installations.
Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with the Engineering team to coordinate maintenance and repair schedules.
• Communicate effectively with other departments to minimize disruption during plumbing repairs and upgrades.
• Maintain clear records of all work performed, including parts used and repairs completed.
Preventive Maintenance:
• Perform regular inspections of the hotel's plumbing systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Identify areas of potential risk and recommend improvements or replacements to management.
• Participate in routine maintenance checks as part of the Engineering team.
Requirements:
Education and Certification:
• Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program.
• Valid Red Seal Certification or equivalent.
• Gasfitter certification (preferred).
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a plumber, preferably in a luxury hospitality environment or large commercial setting.
• Experience with high-rise plumbing systems and water-saving technologies is an asset.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and plumbing schematics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests and staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
• Physical ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.
Power Engineers (Class 4 minimum)
• Operate automated or computerized control systems, boilers, generators, pumps, compressors, fans and refrigeration for the buildings.
• Monitor and inspect equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and flow to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure building equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.
• Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions.
• Troubleshoot, perform corrective action and repairs to prevent equipment failure.
• Respond to emergency situations if required.
• Clean and lubricate pumps and compressors and perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants and hand, power and precision tools.
• Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities.
• May assist in the development of operation, maintenance and safety procedures.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Timeliness and quality of plumbing repairs and installations.
• Minimal disruption to guest services during plumbing-related maintenance.
• Compliance with plumbing codes and safety standards.
• Preventive maintenance goals met without significant system failures.
Work Environment:
• The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on operational needs.
• Must be able to respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly.
• Work may involve exposure to water, heat, and occasionally hazardous materials, with appropriate protective equipment provided.
