Overview:

The Reliability Engineer is part of the maintenance team, whose responsibility is to improve the reliability of cement machinery and equipment. This is a key position, the goal of which is to reach reliability objectives through machine data analysis and the implementation of measures to eliminate failures. To reach this objective, the Reliability Engineer shall perform a Pareto analysis, the analysis of root causes and failures, the development of preventative maintenance and proper operation of existing technologies as part of the equipment surveillance program.

The main role of the Reliability Engineer is to provide targeted analysis as well as technical direction to the overall reliability goals of the plant. He/she is responsible for executing conditional maintenance and developing a formal reliability improvement program. The approach must be well-structured in order to ensure the reliable operation of machinery and equipment on site, while meeting the budgeted production volumes, the quality targets, and the maintenance costs which have been planned. Cement machinery equipment maintenance must be performed to ensure that the desired level of reliability is reached at a reasonable cost during the life cycle of such equipment.

The individual holding this position must identify proactively any problems, investigate the causes of shutdowns/equipment failures, and promote the elimination of problems that underline reliability. Based on the proper analysis, the job holder will develop strategies to improve the maintenance objectives on site. Responsibilities:

Health and Occupational Safety:

  • Ensure full compliance with health and occupational safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all contracts and job sites conform with the requirements set out in the Lafarge's safety policy for the safety of all our employees.

Equipment Reliability:
  • Develop a list of priority equipment for reliability purposes on site.
  • Find solutions to recurring equipment reliability problems and implement improvements.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new equipment to ensure reliability and maintenance.
  • Carefully promote the development of new methodologies to meet reliability problems.

Optimization and Continuous Improvement:
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance teams through promotion of continuous improvement.
  • Optimize the preventative maintenance program and ensure performance follow-up regarding the reliability of critical plant equipment.

Root Cause Analysis:
  • Investigate failures and follow-up of measures to be implemented to improve reliability.
  • Use problem solving tools such as RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) while encouraging production and skilled trade staff to participate in problem resolution.


Relationships with Other Jobs


  • The Reliability Engineer reports to the Director of Maintenance and the holder of this position shall work in cooperation with all the members of the maintenance team, including supervisors, planners, and coordinators.


Specific Accountabilities
  • Respect the requirements of safety regulations in the cement plant.
  • Act as a champion of plant reliability through the promotion of maintenance and reliability.
  • Chair the reliability committee and meetings.
  • Perform follow-up, register, and display reliability results in the plant on a monthly basis.
  • Develop and maintain a reliability risk analysis in the plant in cooperation with the preventative maintenance groups.
  • Investigate major equipment failures and provide recommendations to ensure that such breakdowns do not reoccur.
  • Undertake, design, and implement machine improvement initiatives.
  • Attain both personal objectives and the objectives of the department.

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor of Engineering (preferably, mechanical, or electrical).
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in heavy industry maintenance.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Fully understand all aspects of plant safety.
  • Be familiar with continuous improvement techniques (RCA, FMECA, as well as other continuous improvement techniques)
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Establish priorities and assess the financial impact.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, SAP will be an asset.
  • Black belt in continuous improvement is an asset.
