This team member focuses on embodying the comply/improve/prepare agenda which ensures external regulatory compliance in operations, ensures internal environmental compliance in all Shell activities, facilitates environmental performance improvements in business execution and prepares for the environmental challenges and opportunities of the future.

The Regulatory and Environmental lead will be responsible for the development of all environmental plans and regulatory submissions in support of the business needs for the Atlas CCS Hub. This includes management oversight of major project environmental applications and submissions (Provincial Environmental Assessments, Conservation and Reclamation Plans, Water Act submissions, Federal agency submissions as required), as well as the preparation and submission of Approvals administered by the Alberta Energy Regulator (Directive 56, Directive 65, Directive 51 submissions). The responsibilities also include providing management oversight of major landowner water well sampling programs in support of 3D seismic acquisition. This position is represented on the Atlas Leadership Team.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop detailed regulatory roadmaps and schedules in step with business needs
  • Identify, contract, and manage qualified environmental and regulatory consultancies to assist in the preparation of applications
  • Manage the preparation of comprehensive Conservation and Reclamation plans, Environmental Assessments, and other regulatory submissions in support of pipeline and wells developments, and scheme approvals
  • Work with multi-disciplinary project teams for early identification of environmental issues and develop appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Develop yearly budget submissions (OP submissions), track and report LE for all environment and regulatory support, and support from land and geomatics
  • Support External Relations to develop and deliver key environmental messages, track and manage environmental commitments
  • Participate as required in open houses, landowner events, and provide support for consultation with First Nations, NGOs, and local stakeholders
  • Lead the landowner pre-and-post 3D seismic water well sampling program. Ensure timely and appropriate communications with landowners in relation to all aspects of the program
  • Provide environmental and regulatory support in the context of a hearing if required
  • Deliver daily regulatory and environmental advice to project team
Skills & Requirements
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in a similar role; environmental and/or regulatory discipline
  • BacheloraEUR(TM)s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geosciences preferred
  • Familiarity with CCS and the AER Directives associated with CCS
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
