The Specialist will provide regulatory guidance and technical support to the company, our customers and vendors. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.Major Responsibilities:

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in the commercialization process of our products by representing the Food Safety regulatory team with crucial innovation-based inputs grounded in the fundamentals of regulatory guidance for packaging and product labelling requirements.
  • Review all promotional/advertising material to provide perspective on the compliance of the material.
  • Provide regulatory, nutrition and claim related information for use on farmboy.ca; Manage internal databases used maintaining up-to-date product information for staff, customers and website.
  • Work directly with cross-functional teams to verify suppliers and products meet both food safety and regulatory requirements via documentations and supplier site assessments.
  • Provide support with generating nutrition and ingredient labels for new and existing finished products; Proofread of labels submitted for verification and review all food safety and regulatory supporting documents for accurateness and completeness related to labels, claims, product name, certifications, allergens; etc.
  • Execute substantiation and application of claims on all packaging and marketing materials in accordance within all applicable regulations.
  • Support the communication, planning and execution of regulatory-based changes that impact the business.
  • Provide guidance on routine regulatory and nutritional issues related to Government or Customer inquiries.
  • Organize and manage documentation according to established company policies and procedures.
  • Track quality metrics/performance data, identify trends, gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure that all technical documents in use are current and all master documents are controlled and secured in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary degree in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Food/Nutrition Science or Food Engineering; or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Prior experience with HACCP, GFSI, food legislation, Quality Assurance programs including process controls, training and supplier management; in a food production environment.
  • Understanding of food qualities, nutritional content, interactions and processing methods.
  • Established knowledge of Canadian government regulations on ingredient, claims and nutritional labelling: up-to-date and respond to initiatives to comply with current and upcoming regulatory changes within Health Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, other regulatory agencies as required.
  • Knowledge/proficiency with Food Formulation Software program and Microsoft Office.
  • Capable of communicating effectively at different levels in the organization and cross functional stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude with a desire to learn and collaborate.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills; Detail-oriented.
  • Team player, collaborative, with a strong customer service mindset.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, self-starter with a high level of detail, initiative and adaptability.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and must be able to travel.
Work & Sensory Environment:
  • Exposure to eye strain from computer terminals.
  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
