The

UCVM Community Care Clinic

in the

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term

Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)

for approximately 24 months.


The UCVM Community Care Clinic will provide veterinary care to Albertans facing barriers to accessing veterinary services, while offering opportunities for veterinary students to learn and apply the principles of contextualized care in a primary care small animal setting.


The RVT (Registered Veterinary Technologist) reports directly to the Manager of the Community Care Clinic. They may also receive functional direction from Lead RVT, faculty members, especially when it comes to mentoring or demonstrating clinical skills and procedures. Will occasionally works with Clinical Teaching Technicians, likely in support of student learning and clinic operations.


The position may be physically demanding due to the heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing required.


This position is located at Spy Hill Campus. There may be occasional work at off-site locations.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Will take initiative in a collaborative, team-oriented culture within the clinical and academic setting. A strong ability to mentor and guide veterinary students in a hands-on learning environment is essential Provides clinical support and mentorship in all areas of small animal veterinary medicine, including anesthesiology, medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory diagnostics Supports team meetings to ensure smooth clinic operations. Demonstrates strong leadership, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a proactive approach to driving innovative improvements Effectively communicates and advocates for the UCVM Community Care Clinic, explores opportunities for donations, and provides relevant updates and information to management Supports the development, maintenance, and regular updating of all standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, processes, practices, policies, and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the UCVM Community Care Clinic Identifies equipment repair needs through trouble shooting, advises the Lead RVT or Manager, of repair and replacement Advises Manager, Community Care Clinic of any inappropriate laboratory use May assist in identifying Hazard Assessments and or participate on occupational health and safety committees Ensures incidents or occupational injuries are properly documented and reported as outlined in University of Calgary Safety and Security protocols Interacts with facility users (faculty, students, staff, and others) in a pleasant and respectful manner Maintains confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations, and is flexible in helping in other areas as required

Qualifications / Requirements:



An Animal Health Technology diploma and registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Registered Veterinary Technologist in Alberta in addition to 3 to 5 years current clinical experience as a Registered Veterinary Technologist in a clinical setting is required Ability to communicate and impart knowledge to students and faculty is required Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques as well as anesthesiology and post-operative patient care The ability to restrain and handle small animals with low stress handling Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate interaction with a variety of facilities users is needed (fluency in English is necessary) as well as the ability to work independently Demonstrated teamwork skills, strong organizational, and excellent interpersonal skills. Willingness for growth, and participation for innovated changes
