OVERVIEW
A large and reputable Architecture and Planning firm in the GTA is seeking an experienced Registered Urban Planner to join their busy and collaborative team of Architecture and Urban planning professionals. This is leadership role, beginning as a Senior Planner/Associate, with the trajectory of the position to oversee a small team, and grow into becoming a Principal as the Planning department expands. You will work alongside a Senior Partner in the firm for the first 2-3 years, receiving expert guidance and mentorship from a true expert in the industry. Projects will be focused around landmark high rise towers, hospitality and multi-family projects ($100m ++) with considerable footprints.

THE ROLE / WHAT\'S REQUIRED
You have experience with $100m plus projects that are multifaceted and cover large areas. You will have solid relationships with city planners and lawyers and can drive consultants. Your sharpened analysis skills allow you to push back against unrealistic developer proposals: you\'re confident in "speaking the truth", when required. Other requirements include:

  • Being RPP/MCIP registered - ability to lead a team
  • A deep understanding of Ontario Development regulations; thorough grasp/experience with Bills 23 and 109 and the changing way of receiving applications
  • Ability to deal with multiple personality types and clashing priorities calmly; ability to work with ever-evolving design and zoning needs
  • Ability to deal with Architects; multiple reiterations of complex projects & changing priorities of councilors
  • Researching and staying relevant on planning policy (Provincial, Regional/County, Municipal)
  • Managing a full range of Planning Act applications including Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Draft Plans of 40 plus acre Tower zones, Site Plans, Severances and Minor Variances, Undertaking research, planning policy analysis, report writing, technical report review, urban design guideline review, application preparation, submission and community engagement in support of development proposals and projects
  • Organizing workloads and general oversight / mentoring of other staff
  • Project Management including interacting with clients, other team member, consultants, and municipal staff/agencies through the Planning Act and approvals process
  • Making presentations to Councils, Committees, Ontario Land Tribunal and community groups
  • Providing critical recommendations and advice on land use feasibility and property acquisition projects Providing leadership and contributing to mentorship of Senior, Junior and other staff members with positive reinforcement and coaching
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials;
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Urban Planning or related discipline, from an accredited university, and full membership in OPPI / CIP
  • 10-15 years of relevant work experience with knowledge of the Planning process and the legislative and policy framework in Ontario
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple projects both as part of a team or independently towards the preparation of project deliverables
  • Deep knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Plans and Official Plans
  • Ability to maintain positive networks by developing and securing relationships with agencies, governments, media, and other professionals, including the public
  • Valid G driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
