The Opportunity
Walking with our Relatives
(WWOR) is an indigenous-led response team that supports relatives access to care related to sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence within the Mino Pimatisiwin Sexual Wellness Lodge (MPSWL). We are looking for a
Registered Social Worker
to join the WWOR team to foster culturally grounded, consent based, and trauma informed strategies to provide meaningful support to relatives. As the selected candidate, you are an expert in navigating community resources, and supporting relatives in accessing sexual assault nurse examiners. You understand that the connections are the medicine, and the reason why relatives will continue to be engaged with the organization and seek follow up care. You are able to provide multiple ways of connecting after the initial meeting, and ensure the relative is empowered, informed, and respected at all levels of interactions.
What You Will Be Doing:
Utilizing healing centered modalities to gather necessary information from relatives, and coordinating referrals internally and externally
Offering clinical support to people presenting to care, and support relatives' healing after sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence
Working from a culturally grounded, consent based, and trauma informed place to support to relatives that are seeking care following sexualized violence/intimate partner violence
Understanding and informative on sex positivity and sexual wellness, including supporting people wanting to connect with their sexuality post assault
Building connections with relatives that foster ongoing consent, autonomy, and informed choices
Understanding how to walk alongside relatives while being experts at navigating community resources and support
Supporting relatives navigating the justice system, including protection orders, third party reporting, and attending court
Guiding relatives navigating the healthcare system including accessing hospital based sexual assault nurse examiners
Assisting the team in regards to case management and safety planning
Ensuring confidentiality and PHIA standards are met
Participating in pipe ceremonies, sharing circles, and other ceremonies held onsite
Who You Are
Relevant post-secondary education in Social Services, Community Health, or combination of education and two (2+) years of relevant work experience
Registered Social Worker in good standing at the Manitoba College of Social Workers
Knowledge of traditional Indigenous culture, spirituality and traditions are required
Experience providing counselling to relatives in a community-centered environment
Demonstrated understanding of sex positivity, harm reduction, decolonization, trauma informed practices and healing centered care
Has experience in creating inclusive, anti-racist and equitable environments for relatives accessing care
Able to navigate and utilize community and clinical resources
Comfortable transporting relatives from different locations within Winnipeg
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Detail orientated and organized in file management and data base entry
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required
Clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Check; Child Abuse Registry Check
Flexible hours; able to work evenings and weekends as required
