CAMH's Nursing Innovation & Transition Program is recruiting newly-graduated Registered Practical Nurses to join our team as part of the Nursing Graduate Guarantee Initiative. Our team is well-equipped to support your learning and development during your robust 12 weeks residency on one inpatient unit.
The successful candidate will work within an interprofessional care team to provide direct client- and family-centered mental health and addictions care. You will work with diverse client populations and liaise, as appropriate, with other services across CAMH and within the community to coordinate care. You will engage in reflective practice and have the opportunity to contribute to program development.
In your future role, you will demonstrate the ability to make behavioral observations; conduct mental status examinations, physical health assessments, and risk assessments; monitor clients' responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions; document in the electronic health record; and engage in ongoing communication with other team members. You will develop knowledge and understanding of crisis intervention, addiction issues, group facilitation, recovery-oriented services, trauma-informed care, and severe and persistent mental illnesses. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, promotes dignity and respect, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
This position is located at the Queen Street site and involves shiftwork and weekend work.
Job Requirements
Eligible to participate in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee Initiative, as per the requirements set by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Within 12 months of registering with the CNO and able to practice without restrictions, or able to obtain a temporary class license through the CNO and proof of registration to write the NCLEX
Have not held a nursing position in Ontario in the last 6 months
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the nurse-client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team
Effective decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills
Able to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds
Current CPR/BCLS certification
Computer literacy is required
Previous clinical placement experience in mental health and/or addictions is a strong asset, but not mandatory
* Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset
