JOB SUMMARY:



As a valued member of the team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization's vision and mission.

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the Director of Wellness for the provision of optimum care services based on legislative and organization standards, policies and procedures and assumes responsibility for oversight of the guest attendants. This role may also assist with dining service, recreation program support and common area housekeeping in varying locations.

The RPN is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Maintaining accountability for the nursing and personal care of residents within the scope of training and licensure.

Assuming responsibility for notifying family / responsible party of any significant change in a resident's condition.

Maintaining resident records and required documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements.

Administering medications as prescribed in accordance with pharmacy policies & procedures and observes changes in condition and reports them to the Director of Wellness.

Attending in-services & team members meetings and completes ongoing education in accordance with professional standards for development.

Greeting all visitors and family members in a positive and supportive manner requesting if they need assistance of any kind.

Promoting and maintaining positive communication and relationships among team members.

Demonstrating personal attributes and communication skills that always foster customer satisfaction and monitors team member performance in relation to customer service.

Monitoring team members compliance with the policy on monitoring resident well-being and ensures follow-up is completed as required.

Monitoring the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensures narcotic count is correct.

Reports incidents / near misses, illness, or problems with residents to the Director of Wellness / Executive Director.

Reporting all transfers to hospital or deaths immediately to the Director of Wellness / Executive Director.

Fostering positive interactions with residents, families and visitors.

Facilitating problem solving of resident / family concerns or complaints that arise and ensures complaints are communicated to the Director of Wellness / Executive Director.

Assisting with the orientation of new residents to help facilitate a smooth transition to the home.

Overseeing the PSWs to ensure that care assignments are completed and that changes in residents' needs are reported to the Director of Wellness.

Adhering to organizations policies, procedures, practices.

Participating in orientation and in-service programs and on standing committees as assigned by the Director of Wellness.

Fostering effective communication and positive interpersonal relations with medical and allied team members, residents, families, and team members in other departments.

Facilitating calm reaction and resolution to problems that arise or emergency situations.

Participating in Quality Improvement activities as assigned by Director of Wellness.

Assuming responsibility for replacing team members as required.

Assists with dining room service when required to ensure a pleasurable ding experience for residents.

Answering phone calls in a professional manner and ensures that messages are communicated effectively to marketing team members or Executive Director as applicable.

Performing other related duties as required to support common area cleaning & resident care assignments.

Advising supervisor or designate immediately of all team members incidents that may result in an Occupational Accident Claim, any concerns with the physical plant, incidents or injuries and completes required reports.

Following all health and safety policies and procedures. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.

Wearing personal protective equipment as designated.

Maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles.

Maintaining a sound working knowledge of their role & responsibilities during all Emergency situations when working different shifts.

Participating in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends all education sessions in relation to emergency preparedness.

Working in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Performing other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Possess prior experience in gerontology / working with seniors in community or Retirement setting.

Possess maturity and good physical and mental health.

Have comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices through completion of an approved pharmacology course in accordance with professional standards.

Be skilled in planning and supervising the work of other personnel.

Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.

EDUCATION:



Possess a current registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario

SHIFT TIMINGS:



7:00 am - 3:00 pm

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.97 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
