Position Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care under the direction of medical practitioners, registered nurses or other health team members. RPN working at full scope of practice in the emergency department primarily in the minor treatment area.

Qualifications

  • Current registrations with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as Registered Practical Nurse
  • Qualified to practice within current CNO RPN Scope of Practice Guidelines
  • Current BCLS Certification required
  • Current Coronary Care 1 certificate preferred
  • Physical Assessment Course
  • Completion of a Casting course required
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working in an Emergency Room or Critical Care setting required
  • Demonstrated strong communications skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality as required.
  • Demonstrated strong inter personal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multi task efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused in tense situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations as they arise.
  • Demonstrated ability to be held accountable for actions taken.
  • Demonstrated strong recollection skills and ability to chart in detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standards, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continued professional and personal growth and development through Continuing Education Programs and Self Directed Learning Opportunities.
  • Ability to work all shifts, days, nights and weekends.
