Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a casual nurse.

Days/Hours of work:

8 AM to 4 PM or 9AM to 5PM during weekdays (Monday to Friday) with actual days to be determined. Shifts will be occasional as required by Everywoman's Health Centre's operational requirements.

Salary Range:

Level 3 (RN/RPN). As per the BCNU collective agreement.

Job Summary:



Provide direct nursing care by planning, implementing, and evaluating perioperative care for clients and maintaining related records

Provide emotional support and birth control teaching to clients

Administer medications and assist and monitor clients in the operating room

Admit, monitor, and discharge clients in the recovery area

Perform administrative functions related to nursing care delivery and quality improvement programs

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



1. Provide direct nursing care by planning, implementing and evaluating perioperative care to patients undergoing abortions

2. Provide direct nursing care by planning, implementing and evaluating care to patients having pap, STI, HIV, RPR, and Hepatitis B tests, and having IUD and implant insertions and removals

3. Provide emotional and physical support to patients undergoing abortions and other reproductive and sexual health procedures, as appropriate

4. Administer and monitor patients receiving oral, intramuscular and direct intravenous medications as required; administer intravenous hydration therapy as needed

5. Insert, maintain, and remove peripheral intravenous lines, and hemoglobin testing, as needed or indicated

6. Provide birth control information and counselling

7. Provide information and dispense treatment for sexually transmitted infections

8. Report positive gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV test results (and any other reportable STI results as appropriate) to BCCDC, and fill out Health 208 forms on nonTA clients

9. Provide information to patients and/or support persons on post-discharge care

10. Liaise with outside medical, laboratory and diagnostic facilities regarding care or treatment

11. Participate in clinic team meetings and in other meetings relevant to nursing issues as requested by administration

12. Perform phlebotomy for HIV, RPR, and Hepatitis B

13. Accurately test RH status and hemoglobin testing if required or indicated

14. Provide orientation and guidance/direction to staff and according to established procedures as required

15. Supervise and mentor nursing and midwifery students as appropriate

16. Prepare and maintain records and statistical data

17. Maintain inventory of nursing supplies through regular ordering

18. Participate in Quality Council either as a direct representative or through the nurses' representative

19. Perform delegated functions as per the clinic's emergency protocol

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience:



Graduation from an approved school of nursing or eligibility for registration with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCN&M)

One year of relevant work experience in gynecological, community women's health, medical/surgical and/or operative nursing areas is preferred

Demonstrated knowledge in areas related to women's reproductive health, particularly family planning

Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Safe and Effective Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (SEPSA) certifications

Skills and Abilities:



Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to deal effectively with others in a multi-disciplinary team atmosphere

Ability to organize work

Fluent in English; a second language is an asset

Ability to operate related equipment

Pay: $41.42-$55.91 per hour
