We are seeking caring and compassionate Registered Nurses to join our health care team at the Brockville Jail, Quinte Detention Centre and Central East Correctional Centre. Nurses who work in corrections, practice a wide range of nursing skills in an unconventional setting. They play an important part of the rehabilitation process by helping patients in custody achieve independence and self-care. This helps increase the chance of a patient leaving custody successfully re-entering the community.

About the job

As a Registered Nurse with the Brockville Jail, Quinte Detention Centre or Central East Correctional Centre, you will work collaboratively as a member of the inter-professional health care team to develop, implement and evaluate patient-specific plans of care. You can expect the typical day to include activities such as:
Conducting health assessments for the purposes of triage and on-going care
Advocating for and encouraging patient participation in the plan of care
Monitoring treatment plans and response to health care interventions
Communicating with community care providers to obtain health histories and facilitate transitional care
Contributing to health program development within the institution
Providing emergency care, acute care, crisis intervention, health teaching, and counselling for patients considered medically stable and unstable
Practising in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario practice standards, ministry expectations, and the security requirements of the institution

You are currently a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

You can:
provide full scope of services to patients with complex health care needs and unpredictable outcomes
collect, interpret and evaluate health information to complete comprehensive health assessments
develop treatment and care plans, evaluate responses to planned interventions, and modify interventions in collaboration with the inter-professional team
address emergency situations and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions
You have knowledge of professional standards and guidelines, best practice guidelines, and nursing theories, practices, and relevant legislation such as the Regulated Health Professions Act and Health Care Consent Act.

You can provide emergency care, acute care, crisis intervention, health teaching, and counselling to patients with routine or complex health care needs, and/or unpredictable outcomes

Hours of Work
The hours of work for the full-time positions are 40 hours per week and for the irregularly-scheduled, casual positions are 0-40 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts in a health care unit that provides 7 days per week service, up to 24 hours a day.
