Your Opportunity:A Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 21 is a 28-bed unit providing care to bariatric, urology and general surgery patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from medical clinics. Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a unique inner city population and we want to do it well. The surgery inpatient program maintains the expectation that all employees do so with pride, compassion, and respect. We implement CoAct with Care Hub nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aids working collaboratively to their full scope of practice. RNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids and support their LPN peers. RNs are expected to take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required. Must be able to think critically and respond to emergency situations. Position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis in order to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff. All staff are required to assist with mobilization of patients with a variety of ambulation needs and disabilities.Description:As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:At least 1 year previous surgical experience required Urology, Bariatric, General Surgery. IV, PCA, epidural, TPN, Drains, Wound Care experience required. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.
