Compensation: $31.20 - $47.71 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing our residents with quality care. In providing a range of nursing care to residents with a variety of physical and / or behavioural concerns, the RN will collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive outcomes for the resident.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care in accordance with administrative policies, physician orders, and the Standards of Nursing Practice as described by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Determine, collect and organize the information required for care planning by utilizing all available resources, reporting pertinent information to other members of the multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Collaborate and participate with other members of the health care team in care planning and to act as a resource person to other staff members.
  • Assess a resident\'s condition by recognizing and interpreting signs and symptoms and, where appropriate, initiate remedial health measures.
  • Assess, plan and implement appropriate interventions, and evaluate nursing care for individual residents.
  • Assume responsibility for the administration of medications and treatments as prescribed and for the safekeeping of drug and narcotics.
  • Identify and understand the needs of the residents, setting realistic short and long-goals.
  • Maintain records for each resident in compliance with policies of Sherwood Park Manor.
  • Assume maximum safety for residents and staff, ensuring incident or accident reports are completed.
  • Develop and modify the resident care plan as determined by the biopsychosocial assessment of the resident\'s individual needs, evaluating regularly for effectiveness.
  • Assist with health teaching for residents, including collaborating with the Assistant Director of Care and/or Director of Care in performance appraisals and reviews.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Experience working in Long Term Care desirable.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Skill in planning, co-ordinating and supervising the work of other nursing personnel.
  • Training in the Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First is considered an asset.
  • Experience using PointClickCare an asset.
Soft Skills:
  • The ability to act as a role model with staff, residents, and members of the public. This includes interacting tactfully and courteously with residents, families and visitors, and encouraging effective teamwork as a positive role model for other staff and students.
  • Provide effective support and supervision for the RPN, non-registered staff, support staff and students.
  • Effectively maintain positive relationships with other multidisciplinary team members, families and the public.
  • Demonstrate effective, professional oral and written communication.
  • The ability to manage emergency situations effectively and efficiently.
  • The maturity to assume accountability for one\xe2\x80\x99s own actions.
Working Conditions:

All while showing compassion and care to the Manor\xe2\x80\x99s residents:
  • Stand and walk for long periods
  • Sit for short periods
  • Bend, stoop, and carry
  • Push/pull wheeled equipment
  • Safely transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor\xe2\x80\x99s transfer and lift procedures
  • Work day, evening, night shifts; weekends, holidays and for call-in shifts.
  • Must have an up to date 2 \xe2\x80\x93step TB test.
Signing Bonus

A signing bonus of $2500 will be offered to successful candidates, with a two (2) year commitment to the position.

Hiring Incentive:

Contingent on confirmation of continued employment, there is grant funding of up to $25,000 per eligible nurse through the . To be eligible for the CCPN, a nurse must:
  • Not have been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months prior to being hired;
  • Hold a Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Begin employment no later than March 31, 2024;
  • Commit to two-years of employment at a full-time work schedule offered by the employer; and
  • Not simultaneously receive funds from the Ministry of Health for the Tuition Support Program for Nurses.
