Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Care Manager - Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Services, the incumbent is a member of the inpatient Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) interdisciplinary team. Will provide inpatient forensic mental health services to the NCR-MD patient population according to the professional standards of practice and the Code of Conduct of Alberta Health Services and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta/ College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. The incumbent will carry out professional duties of assessment, consultation, education, treatment and discharge/transition planning into the community. The incumbent will participate in assessments of current mental functioning, treatment follow up needs, completion and attendance at weekly conferences, group facilitation, individual care plans, education, engage in the rehabilitation and recovery model, and social functioning needs of the NCR-MD patients who are legislated under the Alberta Review Board. Further, the incumbent will consult with members of the interdisciplinary team as required and attend and support patients through the ARB process. The incumbent will be cross trained to provide coverage on the inpatient SAFPC assessment unit. Duties would include assessments, 1:1's, nursing histories, conference completion and attendance, group facilitation, medication management, supervision, documentation, correspondence with internal and external stakeholders as required, admission and discharges and overall participation in the court ordered assessments.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Solid interpersonal communication skills, interviewing techniques and writing skills required. In-depth knowledge of mental health/mental illness required. 3-5 years recent experience in an inpatient Mental Health Setting required. Minimum of one years experience in a forensic mental health setting required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention required. Preferred Qualifications:

Current working knowledge of NCR legislation and processes preferred. Experience working within a Recovery and rehabilitation model is preferred. Community mental health experience would be an asset.
