Your Opportunity:

The OR Nurse position is responsible for providing perioperative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CRNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA standards of practice. The Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of their surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The nurse promotes the professional role and evaluates own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The nurse is a patient advocate and provides a link between the units and the Operating Room. The Registered Nurse draws on a unique body of nursing knowledge.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Post grad course in Peri-operative nursing or equivalent experience. 2 years recent acute peri-operative experience required within the last 5 years. Current ACLS / PALS certification desirable. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time. Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office and on-line documentation required. Ability to work on call as scheduled. Current N95 fit testing required. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience in Urology and Ophthalmology surgical services preferred.
