The Staff Nurses provide care for children, adolescents, and their families primarily in the ambulatory clinic setting, but there may also be requirements for patient/family follow-up on the inpatient units and collaboration with the inpatient interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) providing comprehensive nursing assessment, care planning, and management of patients/families cared for by the Medical Day Unit with a focus on the Immunology and ID Teams with other clinic coverage as needs arise. Extensive patient/family teaching and facilitated telephone care form a significant part of the clinic nurses\' role, as is communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. The RN helps to build our reputation for excellence in the Maritime community and beyond. He/she contributes to a sustainable healthcare system through formal and informal partnerships. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable, and the policies and procedures of the IWK.Hours of WorkMonday through Friday day shifts, flexibility required.Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Program
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Five (5) years of recent, pediatric experience (ambulatory preferred) caring for children with complex and/or chronic conditions required.
  • Demonstrated, recent experience working with pediatric conditions (ie. gastroenterology, rheumatology, allergy, immunology, ID, and complex medical conditions) required.
  • Demonstrated competency in CVAD procedures, IV Therapy, and Venipuncture.
  • Competency with computer applications (e.g. MS Word, Outlook, Internet) required.
  • Proven time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner/collaborate with families and multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrated ability in telephone-facilitated care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Proven effective interpersonal communication skills (written/verbal).
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset.
