The Eating Disorders Program provides specialised treatment to patients through inpatient and outpatient programming. As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse will provide nursing care to patients with complex medical and psychiatric needs admitted to our Specialized Inpatient Eating Disorders Program.
:
Responsible for the care of Patients on the in-patient Eating Disorders Unit
Provide nursing care to patients with complex medical and psychiatric needs
Supervise patient meals while supporting a model of normalized eating behaviour
Providing health teaching to patients, family members and frontline staff concerning medication, illness, symptom management, and recovery using a biopsychosocial framework.
Contribute to treatment planning in conjunction with the treatment team using a patient and family centered approach to care.
Ensures coordinated delivery of care through ongoing communication with all members of the treatment team, community partners and discharge planning (when required)
Documents all assessment findings, treatment, transfer and discharge plans as required
Participates in program quality initiatives, and program evaluation as necessary
Demonstrated ability to prioritize care and make informed autonomous decisions;
Passion for change, quality improvement, and professional development
Will be required to float between the Inpatient Eating Disorders Unit and the Inpatient Mental Health unit (2D) based on volume and need of both departments
Additional duties as required
Qualifications:
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred;
Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire;
Minimum of 3 years recent experience in an acute inpatient mental health unit required
At least one year experience working with individuals with anorexia nervosa and/or bulimia nervosa in an inpatient and/or day hospital program an asset
Mental health community experience an asset
Additional experience in addictions and/or medical/surgical or emergency nursing would be considered an asset;
Training & Experience with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable health care legislations
Demonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations
Proficient in the use of computers, with the ability to type notes and utilize the electronic health record;
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent organization, time management, professionalism, and ability to work as part of team;
Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required;
