Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) critical care program consists of the General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) and the Edmonton Firefighters\' Burn Treatment Unit. The Burn Unit is one of two American Burn Association verified burn centres in Canada with a catchment area of central and northern Alberta, northern BC, northern Territories, and the province of Saskatchewan. As a registered nurse working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary burn team, you provide evidence-based care to patients with extensive burns and complex wounds, many requiring ventilator support. Pediatric patients with burns not requiring artificial airway management are also cared for within this unit. Medical-surgical patients requiring ventilator and inotrope support may also be cared for within the Burn unit. As a casual registered nurse working within the interdisciplinary critical care team, you will be responsible for planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating care using evidence based practices. You will work collaboratively within the team to provide positive patient outcomes and excellence in patient and family centered care while adhering to hospital policy and standards of care.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.17/hour - $42.96/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of one year full time equivalent employment in the GSICU or Burn Unit post OPACCA completion is required in order to be considered for casual status within the Critical Care program. Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with one year FTE of adult critical care experience in a comparable GSICU or Burn Unit may be considered for casual status. Candidates must display excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to critically think. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Leadership skills and proven mentorship skills are a must. Candidates must display the ability to identify their own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to providing quality patient and family centered care within a team environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications, training or experience with the following are preferred: ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, IHD, CRRT, Code Team, MET, Clinical Resource Team, and charge nurse experience. As well as PEARS, PALS, Level One Sharp Debridement and the Advance Burn Care designation.
