The Registered Nurse - Critical Care Nurse (ICU RN) is a leader and pivotal member of the inter-professional team. The ICU RN acts as a primary caregiver to the patient and family in the critical care setting, and is trained in advanced critical care certifications, including Code Blue and Outreach (Rapid Response, MET) Team membership. Critical Care Nurses work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists and social workers in order to achieve the best patient outcomes through a team-based approach. All adult ICUs in Calgary participate in a 5-week full time provincial critical care orientation program (OPACCA), offering an orientation tailored to meet your specific learning requirements. One of the largest and busiest critical care units in Alberta, Foothills Medical Center ICU is the regional tertiary referral center supporting multiple clinical programs including trauma, burns, and neurocritical care for Southern Alberta. This 33+ bed unit is located in a state-of-the-art facility and offers a broad case mix including medical and surgical emergencies, oncology and haematology. Key Responsibilities Include: Provision of direct care for patients & families. Maintenance of electronic and written documentation of care. Maintain professional practice, including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, assumption of Charge Nurse duties when needed, promotion of a positive supportive work environment, and demonstration of professional accountability. Promotion of a healthy, respectful and safe practice environment.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
