As part of the Child, Youth & Emerging Adult Program (CYEAP), Child, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) provides care and treatment to children and youth between the ages of 6 and 24. Clients and their families served by CYFS are offered specialized services and customized care across an inpatient, day treatment, and outpatient continuum of care. These services are closely aligned with our Research Centres including the McCain Centre for Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression.


Position Description



CYFS is currently seeking a full-time permanent Registered Nurse to work across the outpatient teams serving children and youth and their families. Reporting to the Senior Manager and as a member of an interprofessional team, the successful candidate will perform assessments and provide case management, individual, group, and family treatment, including outpatient counseling. In addition you will provide client-centered mental health, addictions and general nursing care. Your role will include supporting evidence-based models of care and programming, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). You will value and engage in self-reflection and continuous learning. As a staff member, you behave as an ambassador; supportive of professional conduct and CAMH values. Your role includes support to clients to transition to other services. You will liaise with other services at CAMH and with community agencies, to coordinate care for clients, and will maintain positive working relationships with our internal and external partners. You will ensure that security, safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. You will be able to work with adolescent clients and families from diverse populations, provide education support and supervision to students and volunteers. You will demonstrate a commitment to accountability: critical thinking, reflective practice and continuous learning. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, and complies with all policies and regulatory requirements. Ability to work flexible hours is a requirement and some evening hours will be required. This position is located at 80 Workman Way.


Job Requirements




You must be registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. You must also possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. You must have a bachelor degree in nursing, BScN, and preference will be given to RNs with certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association. Specialized clinical experience working with complex and challenging children, youth and their families is preferred. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop therapeutic nurse-client relationships. You will be able to work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Formal training and demonstrated knowledge in evidence based treatment models (cognitive-behavioural therapies, interpersonal therapy etc) are critical, with three (3) or more years of specialized clinical experience working with complex and challenging children, youth, and their families is required. Strong skills in individual and family counseling, psychoeducation, clinical assessment, case management, and treatment are essential. Demonstrated experience in co-facilitation of group programming for children, youth and parents is needed. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is essential and experience completing comprehensive clinical child and family mental health assessments as part of an interdisciplinary team is required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment are also essential. Experience in developing and delivering training workshops and contributing to capacity building initiatives are essential. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication and workload measures are essential. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
