Position Summary




The Registered Nurse (RN) provides leadership and promotes excellence in pediatric, family-centred rehabilitation nursing care. The paediatric rehabilitation RN skill set is grounded in rehabilitative principles of managing complex medical needs, collaborating with the interprofessional team, partnering with the client and family, providing client/caregiver education, working with the client/family to set goals for maximum independence and establish plans of care to maintain optimal wellness.

The RN is registered with College of Nurses of Ontario and works to full scope of practice within the current legislative framework. The RN demonstrates the skills to work across the continuum of care and on all three units BIRT, SODR & CCC.



Key Responsibilities




Clinical Practice


Uses theoretical and evidence based practice to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for clients on all 3 inpatient units Provides nursing care that promotes and supports the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being of clients and families Practices culturally competent care Works in partnership with client/family and interprofessional team to facilitate appropriate, timely and effective discharge/transition planning Advocates for clients/families with goal of effective outcomes and appropriate use of resources Interacts with members of the interdisciplinary care team and community providers as appropriate, to ensure an integrated approach to care Supports and respects the client/family's rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences

Collaboration


Collaborates with client / family and interprofessional team to identify client-centred goals Demonstrates excellent communication skills Practices based on identified standards of care within an interprofessional environment

Leadership


Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care Participates in quality activities to ensure the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal to clients/families, colleagues, students and other professionals within a fully affiliated academic healthcare environment Manages change in a constructive and appropriate manner Seeks opportunities for professional growth

Research/Education


Demonstrates a spirit of inquiry by examining current practice and identifying questions for study Utilizes nursing best practice guidelines to deliver care Participates in nursing research where applicable and utilizes outcome measurement

This role may rotate across all 3 Units: Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team (BIRT), Specialized Orthopedic & Developmental Rehabilitation (SODR) and Complex continuing Care (CCC). Successful candidates will be required to work across the 3 units to meet client care needs as required.


Qualifications




Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or minimally enrolled in and actively working towards a degree in nursing Previous job related experience required, pediatric rehabilitation nursing experience preferred Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and member of the interprofessional team Experience in working with clients who are ventilator dependent Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario Membership in RNAO preferred * Specialty Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing preferred
