The
Registered Midwife
will provide pregnancy and birth care and episodic reproductive or postpartum care, working with a team of midwives as part of an interdisciplinary primary care team, focusing on priority populations and those facing barriers to health.
The Midwife will:
Deliver complete antenatal for pregnant clients, and complete postpartum care for clients and their infants
providing contraception care, ie: IUD and nexplanon insertion
Interview/take histories, examine, make assessments, taking into account the social determinants of health and incorporating health teachings as appropriate
Order and interpret diagnostic labs and tests, diagnose, prescribe and treat as appropriate in accordance with standards of the College of Midwives of Ontario
Collaborate with other professionals on the team to provide antenatal and postpartum care for clients and their infants
Conduct community/home visits and provide 24 hour on-call services, including phone assessments
Participate in the development of clinical policies and protocols
Assist in program assessment and quality improvement
The Midwife will also focus on outreach and relationship building with social and health service providers and organizations, working within a framework that focuses on an understanding of the social determinants of health and an emphasis on health promotion and education and support for individuals facing systemic barriers to pregnancy and reproductive care.
This is an excellent opportunity for midwives interested in expanding their scope and knowledge related to substance use in pregnancy, management of early pregnancy loss and medication abortion, issues facing non-insured clients, supporting clients experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, and clients navigating the child welfare system. Our team is deeply embedded in local networks of frontline providers and engaged in regular systems-change work related to improving equity and healthcare access.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Maintain current and appropriate membership with the College of Midwives of Ontario
Maintain Professional liability insurance
Ability to provide immediate and emergent care to clients (24 hour call), including afterhours and on weekends
Work from a health promotion approach, addressing determinants of health
Expertise in client-centred, trauma-informed care and understanding of the value of interdisciplinary care in a health care setting
Ability to work effectively with individuals with complex needs and involvement with multiple services and systems
Proven cultural competence and commitment to health equity, with ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Valid driver's license and own vehicle required
Program development and evaluation skills an asset
Expanded scope skills is an asset (IUD insertion, abortion provision, experience with pregnant people using substances, etc)
Second language is an asset
