Job Summary
This regional position has responsibility for the provision, evaluation and quality assurance of coding and abstracting services and data submission across the organization in support of the organization\'s strategic goals and objectives. This includes budgetary accountability and human resource management of coding and abstracting and data quality staff, collaboration with provincial and national agencies and support of clinical data quality collection and reporting.

This position ensures accurate, efficient, standardized, and timely collection of clinical data throughout the region. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with provincial, national and international health information standards and coordinating the adoption of new and emerging standards. This in turn supports the organization compliance with internal protocols and standards established by organizational policy, provincial, national, and professional guidelines and legislative requirements.

The manger will ensure the submission of the clinical data to national and provincial agencies, Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI), Department of Health and Community Services (DHCS) and other approved agencies as required. The output of clinical data into these external agencies support and provide national and regional comparisons of organizational effectiveness, health status and outcome measurement which ultimately supports identification of best practices and public policy.

Job Qualifications
Education
Bachelor\'s degree in Health Information Management or related degree required.
Current and continued certification as a Health Information Management Professional with Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is required.

Experience
Minimum of five years\' experience in the last seven in Coding, Abstracting, and Data Quality is required.
Progressive management experience is required.

Knowledge of Canadian Institute of Health information data tools and standards.
Demonstrated ability to use of information and office automation tools and in electronic data reporting tools.
Proven leadership and decision making skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage and foster positive interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with a high degree of independence and initiative.

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
