Refrigeration Mechanic (Temp)

Position Type/Hours:

Full-Time Temporary Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, 40 hours weekly, plus overtime as required

Effective Date:

Immediately to September 30, 2026

Annual Compensation:

$32.86 to $34.85 per hour, as per collective agreement

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Mechanical and Electrical Services, the Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC/R systems including mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment from single phase up to three phase, six hundred volt, semi-hermetic and hermetic compressors, capacity control, heat pumps, gas fired equipment up to and including 400 000 BTU's. The technician works in accordance with the board policies and procedures, relevant regulations including the interprovincial Refrigeration License and B-52 Code and Pressure Vessel Act, using best practices in a safe and effective manner.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:



Installing, altering, upgrading, and maintaining of system related components Performing applicable preventative maintenance such as checking and testing equipment Ensuring HVAC/Refrigeration equipment is C.G.A. approved and installed to relevant applicable codes Ensuring the safety of occupants and minimize impact to the operation of the facility within the guidelines of OHSA and applicable Board policies and procedures Ensuring Board vehicle, tools and specialty equipment such as refrigerant recovery units are in safe working order Process, complete and maintain documentation as required including work orders, vehicle inspection sheets, H&S incident reports, and related position specific logs and forms

Required Skills and Qualifications:



The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experiences to the role:

Secondary School Graduation Diploma 313A/313D Refrigeration/Air Conditioning license (or minimum 4th year Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic apprenticeship student) Valid G2 Gas License, preference given to multi-license Minimum 2 years and 3000 hours of previous related and/or on the job experience, particularly related to air handling units and roof top unit troubleshooting and repairs Effective interpersonal skills Proven ability to work both independently and co-operatively as a member of an interdepartmental team Proven time management, scheduling and organizational skills Ability to prepare documentation for standard maintenance practices Ability to share knowledge with colleagues for awareness building and knowledge cross-pollination Ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes for failure finding and restoring services Advises the Facilities Services management team of opportunities for continuous improvement Must be comfortable using technology the position is required to use technology including the Board's Work Management System (eBASE) with mobile technology Standard First Aid Certification, CPR certification. Valid Ontario Drivers License, Class G with a clean abstract.
