Refrigeration Technician (Red Seal or 3rd/4th year Apprentice)
Location: Prince George, BC
Reports To: General Foreman / Manager
Position Summary
Responsible for the Installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of commercial and industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems. This role requires technical proficiency, safety awareness, and strong customer service skills. Technicians will work independently or as part of a team to deliver high-quality service across a variety of client sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair refrigeration and HVAC systems including but not limited to chiller plants, ammonia refrigeration systems, walk-ins, rack systems, RTUs, MUAs, heat pumps, and boilers.
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on mechanical and control systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, and control issues across various platforms
Installation & Commissioning
- Assist with installation and startup of new equipment.
- Verify system performance and ensure compliance with TSBC and CSA B52 standards.
- Complete commissioning documentation and client training as required.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding service status, recommendations, and system performance.
- Provide technical support and guidance to facility operators.
- Maintain professionalism and represent the company positively on-site.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate service records, logs, and job notes.
- Submit reports and timecards promptly.
- Use service management software for scheduling and documentation.
Qualifications
- Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Qualification or Red Seal Certification preferred.
- Class B Gas Ticket or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in commercial HVAC/R service.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration principles, electrical systems, and control logic.
- Ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Comfortable working in cold environments and mechanical rooms.
- Capable of responding to emergency service calls after hours.
