Duties and Responsibilities:
The Recruitment, Outreach, and Planning Officer plays a key role within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) by developing, maintaining and implementing FASS-specific undergraduate and graduate outreach and recruitment programs and strategies as a member of the Communications team. The incumbent develops and reports on the success of recruitment and retention programs, facilitates experiential learning opportunities for FASS units, provides informed counsel to students seeking academic program advice and registration assistance to support future academic and career success and provides data extraction and analysis to inform decisions. Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications and working closely with the Associate Dean, Student Affairs and Enrolment and the Dean to support specific projects, the incumbent contributes directly to the financial and academic success of FASS by developing and implementing targeted, engaging and evolving recruitment programs to attract and retain students and through the provision of expert data analysis of enrolment and other data that informs strategic decision-making within FASS.
As part of a broader recruitment and retention program, the incumbent is a central point of contact between the Faculty and community partners on issues related to experiential learning. The incumbent develops and implements a strategic approach to experiential learning tailored to meet the specific needs of FASS students and works collaboratively with other offices on campus involved in experiential learning (such as the Student Experience Office) to ensure appropriate synergies and the sharing of best practices. The incumbent represents the Faculty at recruitment activities both on and off-campus and coordinates representation at those events (unit, faculty and student staff participants). The incumbent facilitates the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of FASS Ambassadors and other volunteer student staff to ensure they are prepared to represent the Faculty appropriately at recruitment and other events/activities.
With thorough knowledge of enrolment trends and academic (including experiential learning and practicum) programs within FASS, the incumbent provides in-depth academic advising to FASS students at all levels, develops strategies and tools to inform students' academic decisions through alumni surveys, enrolment analysis, Major Maps, etc. and is a key team member working collaboratively with the Communications and Financial teams, Associate Deans, and academic units to provide engaging outreach and data-informed input into the direction of academic planning and activities.
