Student Recruitment markets the University's programs and services by managing and implementing recruitment strategies for domestic and international markets. Student Recruitment reaches out to prospective applicants to encourage them to apply, drives application numbers while assisting students through the application process, and implements strategies to convert applicants to registered students.
The Recruitment Coordinator, Student Recruitment is a full-time, continuing position responsible for taking the lead on the recruitment activities of the department, executing the overall strategy of the Associate Registrar. This includes training and coaching the recruitment staff and overseeing recruitment activities and projects. Additionally, as lead recruiter this position actively performs recruitment duties such as visiting high schools, planning and executing overseas recruitment trips and serve as the primary contact for school guidance counsellors.
Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the direct supervisor of the Student Recruitment staff.
  • Manages the departmental recruitment and travel calendar.
  • Leads weekly team meetings.
  • Organizes and conducts training sessions for Student Recruitment staff on new requirements, programs and/or information and guides their work in implementing strategies, tactics, programs, and partnerships.
  • With Associate Registrar, leads the design and implementation of new initiatives, projects, tools and policies.
  • Reviews recruitment reports and submissions from recruiters and provides feedback.
  • Strategically builds and enhances the University's relationships with high schools, both locally and abroad.
  • Directly liaises with foreign and Canadian government officials, Deans, professors, principals, school directors, guidance counsellors and educational agents on student recruitment matters.
  • Keeps current on the range of UWinnipeg Student Services and student supports available and develops recruitment-focused messaging.
  • Acts as liaison with other departments to coordinate student recruitment activities, and to ensure Student Recruitment is providing accurate information.
  • Collaborates with internal partners to streamline the enrolment of students.
  • Handles complex or complicated inquiries escalated by staff.
  • In consultation with the Director, designs and executes recruitment strategies and outreach to meet or exceed annual recruitment goals and targets.
  • Provides agent training in assigned markets, providing reports on agent performance and evaluating opportunities to collaborate. Proactively engages in outreach to agent partners.
  • Stays informed of trends in higher education marketing and recruitment and briefs the recruitment team on opportunities, challenges, trends, etc.
  • Researches and recommends target markets for engagement that align with UWinnipeg's academic programming and competitive advantages. Researches and recommends recruitment strategies in existing and prospective markets.
  • Works with recruitment officers to plan country- or region-specific initiatives.
  • Work with Associate Registrar and Administrative Coordinator to manage approved recruitment activities within budget for target market.
  • Trains new and long-term agents and institutional partners on UWinnipeg programs, admission and agent policies and practices, and applicant profiles, in assigned markets, acting as the primary point of contact for the agent.
  • Assists Recruitment Officers with assessing markets, working with agents in their assigned territories and providing recommendations regarding particular activities/opportunities in assigned territories.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts presentations and workshops to groups of prospective students, guidance counsellors, institutional and program partners, parents, teachers, etc.
  • Informs prospective students about the undergraduate application and admissions experience.
  • Provides information to students regarding the full range and types of undergraduate programs offered by The University of Winnipeg, helps students connect their interests and academic background with appropriate programs.
  • Answers basic questions about the course selection and registration process.
  • Represents the University in targeted international markets, student fairs, career fairs, and other recruitment outreach opportunities.
  • Assists in planning and promoting recruitment events and seminars.
  • Engages and maintains on-going communication strategies.
  • Supervises and gives direction to Student Ambassadors.
  • Manages personal travel schedule, off-campus and on-campus recruitment activities, virtual events, and office activities.
  • Researches and plans travel itineraries and schedules for overseas recruitment activities, and completes all travel expense reports in accordance with University policy.
  • Prepares thorough and comprehensive trip reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline.
  • At least three years of directly related experience in student recruitment required.
  • Experience managing or supervising a team is an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of the academic programs, student services and functions of the University at all levels is essential.
  • Well-developed knowledge of student recruitment concepts and best practices.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues of prospective students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a cross-cultural setting, maintaining expert level awareness of cultural norms in communication, cultural and business practices.
  • Expert networking, relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated related ability to manage, motivate and involve individuals
  • Must have the ability and desire to establish positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds and be able to work effectively and in harmony with a variety of full-time and student employees, faculty, staff, students and administrators.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to execute complex scenarios such as extended travel planning.
  • Must have exceptional presentation skills.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with a CRM system considered an asset (e.g. Salesforce, Recruit, Banner).
  • Must be skilled in using multimedia applications to support school visits and career fairs and be proficient in the use and operation of desktop and laptop computers and peripherals, digital projectors, as well as online file sharing and email programs, social media tools, virtual meeting software like Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and office software programs and applications.
  • Familiarity with Colleague would be an asset.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Driver's license.
  • Must hold a valid passport.
  • Must be willing to work in the evenings/weekends and incur overtime when workloads/deadlines merge or travel is required.
The salary range for this position will be from $53,926.60 to $74,765.60 annually.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to two (2) days per week.
