Job Description

Trinity Village Care Centre is home to 150 residents and is seeking a driven individual who is motivated by improving healthcare in the community. Are you ready to make a difference in the world of healthcare with Trinity Village Care Centre?

We currently have a part-time position available for a Recreationist within our Adult Day Program. The Recreationist will work within a team to plan and implement recreation programs to meet various physical, social, and psychological needs of the participants. The Recreationist will monitor participants' needs and progress as well as provide opportunities for participants to practice and maintain life skills.

Responsibilities:



1. Adhere to the Trinity Village Care Centre Mission, Values, and Vision.

2. Implement group and individual therapeutic recreation activities such as physical, social, educational and sensory stimulation activities. Set up the activity area as necessary and help with all the participants' needs.

3. Monitor the behaviour and condition of the participants during programs and report any significant changes to the ADP Coordinator.

4. Participate in development, revision and evaluation of programs under the guidance of the ADP Coordinator.

5. Assists in maintaining program and participants records.

6. Adhere to established department policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, occupational health and safety, environment and infection control.

7. Work cooperatively with other staff members, volunteers and family members, to meet the participants' needs.

8. Maintain educational in-service records.

9. Assist with planning monthly calendar and assist with completing client care plans.

10. Responsible for day-to-day program activities.

11. Prepared to assist with nutritional needs, ambulation and toileting when required.

12. Help facilitate meal preparation, service and clean up.

Qualifications:



A Degree or Diploma in Recreation and Leisure studies or Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized university or college

Previous experience working in a day program

GPA certificate, P.I.E.C.E.S. certificate, U- First certificate, SMART exercise training certificate, Montessori certificate an asset, Safe Food Handling Certificate an asset

Courses in gerontology/health studies/recreation management for older adults as asset

Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of community resources

Keeping up to date with research, local networks and educational opportunities

First Aid and CPR

Knowledge of musical instrument an asset

Knowledge of current technology with demonstrated computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preference will be given to those with experience in a long-term care setting. Some evening and weekend work is required.
