As a valued member of the Adult Day Program team, the Personal Support Worker - Adult Day Program, under the general direction of the Adult Day Program Supervisor will demonstrate a commitment to the provision of safe, efficient care to the personal needs of the clients by assisting them to meet their emotional, social, cultural and physical needs.
MAJOR TASKS:
1. Delivery of programs
Engages the clients in approved recreation plan that corresponds to identified needs and interests of the clients.
Modifies the environment to make it conducive to physical, emotional and social stimulation while maintaining client safety.
Acts as a resource person to volunteers and instructs when necessary.
Escorts clients to and from program in program van.
2. Provision of Personal Care as required
Assists clients with personal hygiene following bathroom use as necessary.
Assists clients with whirlpool baths.
Lifts and transfers clients using accepted back care methods in accordance with the Home's Lift Policy.
Assists with mealtime feeding, dietary supplements, snack and beverages.
Provides basic nail care as part of "manicure" (no clipping of nails).
Prompts clients with medication reminders.
3. Maintenance of program records
Daily vehicle inspection and logs.
Documents any unusual client behaviours or actions.
Monitors program participation.
Documents any personal care given i.e. bathing.
4. Teamwork
Is responsible for supporting the Day Program Mission and Goals.
Is responsible for ensuring Policies and Procedures from the Adult Day Program, Valleyview and the City of St. Thomas are observed.
Attends in-services and workshops to further professional development.
5. This position must take responsibility for personal health and safety insofar as he or she is able under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations. A worker must:
Work in compliance with the provisions of the Act, the regulations and City policies.
Must use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the City requires to be used or worn.
Report to his or her supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker.
Report to his or her supervisor any contravention of the Act, the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.
This position shall not:
Remove or make ineffective any protective device required by regulations or by the City, without providing an adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately.
Use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker.
Engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Secondary School Graduation Diploma with successful completion of a Personal Support Worker program.
Previous work experience with seniors or in a long term care facility is an asset.
Computer knowledge is an asset.
Must have a valid class "F" driver's license, or willing to obtain within first three (3) months of hire.
Shifts:
Monday - Friday; 7am - 3pm; 8am - 4pm; 11am - 7pm; must be able to work all of these shifts. Occasional shift coverage required: 7pm - 7am
Remuneration Range:
$27.03 - $27.94 per hour (2025 rate). This is a Unifor Local 27 position.
