The Gymnastics Coach will deliver Splitz curriculum while promoting Splitz mission and philosophy. Coaches will emphasize safety, inspire physical success and create positive experiences for all participants in a passionate and professional manner.
Main Responsibilities:
Instructional duties
• Follow lesson plans provided to deliver age and level appropriate gymnastics lessons
• Ensure a safe learning space by checking safety of equipment before use
• Create a fun, and positive environment for all participants
• Challenge all participants appropriately and in an encouraging manner
• Modify activities to suit individual athletes ability and readiness
• Ensure safe progressions are used to develop gymnastics skills
• Keep class active by designing circuits with return lines to minimize line ups
• Use appropriate spotting techniques when needed to assist participants
• Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm while coaching
• Maintain focus on class at all times with a clear view of participants
• Lead by example with an active, energetic pace
• Welcome new students into your class with an introduction to the group and facility
• Set clear boundaries for participants
• Uses a mix of appropriate instructions/demonstrations.
• Provides engaging warm-ups/fun finishes and incentive funditioning activities
• Ensure participants follow the gym rules and are respectful of each other and the facility
• Apply care or first aid to injuries
• Address any disciplinary or bullying situations
• Follow rotation schedules and respect other coaches and groups requirements
• Set up appropriate circuits and stations and clean up at the end of the shift
• Dress appropriately in Splitz attire
Communication and interpersonal duties
• Communicates with management in a timely manner
• Arranges a substitute for last minute sicknesses and communicates effectively with the management team in these circumstances
• Communicate with participants and parents with confidence and enthusiasm
• Establish and maintain excellent professional relationships
• Demonstrate a sense of fair play and promote sportsmanship
• Treat everyone equally using patience and tolerance
• Find ways to make all participants feel good about themselves
• Use appropriate verbal and non verbal communication and open body language
• Provide varying feedback that is specific, positive and constructive
• Communicate important information with parents that is pertinent to their child i.e. injury
• Inform the office if there are any discrepancies in class attendance, children not picked up, sick children, emergencies etc.
• Share workload with fellow coaches and be a positive team player
• Provide feedback and communication with all departments including owners
• Be willing to sub when available as others may reciprocate when needed
• Receive performance feedback positively and recognize opportunities for learning and advancement
• Gives individual and group feedback during and after class
Organizational and administrative duties
• Be aware of and follow all Splitz policy and procedures
• Possess a confident understanding of all Splitz programming while providing lateral support as needed (recommending and directing participants/families to the correct programs)
• Ask for assistance when unsure of club policies or procedures.
• Arrive on time for all shifts
• Ensure all classes start and finish on time
• Use paid preparation time to familiarize yourself with daily communication, iclass messenger, daily athlete updates, your rotations schedule and slack resources
• Uses paid preparation time to familiarize yourself with upcoming stations and inflatable safety
• Be prepared for any new students, transfers or make up classes in your classes
• Be aware of any medical concerns in place for students
• Be familiar with weekly lesson plans and prepared to modify them to suit your classes
• Take attendance
• Evaluate athletes progress using testing in Iclass - ongoing
• Complete award comments with meaningful comments and handed in on-time to office
• Complete and submit skill complete sheets as school aged athletes complete level curriculum
• Report all accidents and injuries that occur during class and fill out accident report forms as required and submit to office
• Arrange substitutes in advance when absent
• Miscellaneous tasks may be required from time to time as directed by management
• Participate in professional development, including bootcamp opportunities when offered
Working Conditions and physical demands
This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Coaching duties are performed within a busy and exciting gym atmosphere, which can be noisy. Coaches are required to lift and spot athletes of various ages and sizes, along with the ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 50 lbs. This position requires the coach to demonstrate basic gymnastics movements.
Required qualifications:
• NCCP Foundations in Women's Artistic Gymnastics
• Respect in Sport
• Police Record Check required for coaches aged 18 years and up
• Current Basic First Aid Certification
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.75-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
