QUALIFICATIONS




Grade 12 education (MB Standards) Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or willing to obtain within 6 months Experience working with the elderly, physically and/or cognitively disabled Other combinations of suitable education and experience may be considered Two (2) years recent relevant experience working directly with clients in a health care or recovery environment Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License Successful completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) Successful completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Two (2) years recent relevant experience working directly with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness or seniors and/or frail cognitively impaired population Demonstrated evidence of working with community agencies that promote independence and community integration Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures Demonstrated communication skills Ability to respect and promote confidentiality Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population Ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary team

POSITION SUMMARY:



The activity/recreation worker will develop and provide recreation programs focused on promoting the health, wellness, and recovery (physical and mental) of the clients. The activity/recreation worker will work collaboratively and independently to provide services to the clients in partnership with clients, families and interdisciplinary team members in alignment with PMH vision, mission and values.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



Overview:



1. Plans, organizes and implements activity & recreation programs for clients and participants.


2. Organizes and implements group activities.


3. Provides instruction for selected tasks to develop knowledge and abilities.


4. Communicates information with interdisciplinary team members regarding client's progress and revise plan as required.


5. Develops and implements creative activities for individuals and groups based on client


interests, needs and wishes.


6. Engages with and work with external partners as appropriate for the development of


activities/recreational events.


7. Ensures activity/recreational events that clients participate in are client focused related to the physical and mental wellbeing of the client.


8. Ensures that diagnosed or medical restrictions are followed during the activity/recreation


event.


9. Develops of the monthly recreation/activity calendar.


10. Estimates, obtains and adapts space, equipment and supplies necessary to conduct


scheduled activities.


11. Completes appropriate records/documentation including statistics as required.


12. Maintains activity program statistics and provides monthly reports.


13. Ensures a sufficient inventory of supplies are available to meet the activity program requirements by maintaining records of supplies used, and requisitioning for replacements as needed.


14. Assesses the potential for crisis situations and intervenes to de-escalate/defuse situations


15. Ensures equipment is used safely, stored appropriately, and maintained in good working order


16. Other duties as assigned.
