WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Recreation Programmer I, you will: Assist in assessment, program design, and implementation of recreational activities. Provide individual interventions that support residents' overall well-being. Complete documentation and contribute to ongoing resident care plans. Coordinate and support volunteers engaged in recreation and activity programs. Collaborate with Care Team Members to deliver in-house programs that promote engagement and joy. Participate in pet care and plant maintenance as part of holistic programming when required. Maintain a positive attitude, contribute to a healthy workplace culture, and help stamp out negativity. Wear a mask for the duration of the shift, as per infection control protocols.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:

A sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with residents, enhancing their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. The ability to relate with compassion and respect to those who live and work in our home, with strong customer service and stakeholder focus. A Degree or Diploma in Recreation, or a combination of relevant experience and education in Gerontology or Sociology. Proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Effective communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills with residents, families, and colleagues. Adaptability and flexibility to meet the changing needs of residents and the organization. Reliability in attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently using sound judgment and initiative. Physical capability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting, transporting, and leading multiple fitness programs throughout the day.

WHAT WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO HAVE:

A valid Class IV Driver's License (or willingness to obtain). Emergency First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain). Completion of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia Course (GPA). Membership with Nova Scotia Recreation Professionals in Health or Therapeutic Recreation Association Atlantic Canada. Eden Training or experience with people-centered care approaches. Experience working with volunteers and facilitating community engagement. Previous experience in geriatric programming or a long-term care setting.
