As the Recreation Program Coordinator - Initiatives and Events, you "Take Care of Banff" by coordinating services that encourage participation in accessible community programs. You collaborate with programmers, contractors, businesses and local volunteers to deliver a range of activities, events and initiatives that support the well-being of the community.


You blend your organizational and administrative strengths, allowing you to listen and respond appropriately to the needs and concerns of this community. Your tactical skills are matched by your empathy and passion for educating individuals on the health benefits of social and physical activity in the town and in Banff National Park. You thrive on collaboration and are committed to working with our network of agencies and individuals to deliver diversity and cross-cultural experiences.


As the Recreation Programmer, you are responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of recreation initiatives and events, including community programs, event permitting, and customer service. You work closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance recreation services and ensure meaningful community engagement. This role includes collecting, summarizing, and presenting community feedback, as well as planning and executing a variety of year-round events for all ages. Programming is designed to connect participants with nature, foster active living, and increase inclusion and access for populations facing barriers. Additionally, you help create supportive physical and social environments that encourage participation, build community, and reflect best practices, trends, and emerging needs.


The ideal candidate holds a post-secondary credential in education, recreation, or a related field and has at least three years' experience in community-based programming, including planning, program delivery, volunteer management, budgeting, and partnership agreements. They are skilled in using online engagement platforms, data analysis, and proficient in MS Office with technical competence in electronic records and booking systems, including Univerus, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence with a clear abstract and an RCMP vulnerable sector clearance are required.


The hours of work for this position is 35 hours per week with shifts scheduled dependent on your programs and events.
