Reporting to a Coordinator of Recreation programs, this is recreation leadership work involves implementing a variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities all over the City of Burnaby, in all service areas. This role also includes supervising auxiliary staff, contractual instructors and volunteers. Duties are performed within established program guidelines, but some independent action, judgement and initiative is exercised. Preparing and leading individual program plans and promotes interest and participation in program activities, special events; provides guidance, advice and referrals as required to the public; reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs; and establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public; enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behavior and safety are maintained. Additionally, you will be tasked with keeping stats and producing promotional materials and signage as well as preparing reports when required. Assumes responsibility for the operation and security of a Recreation Centre on assigned shifts and/or in absence of a supervisor. Performs related work as required.



Qualifications include the completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of the Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will bring sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre, or the event. You will have the working knowledge of sports, crafts, arts and other pursuits related to various recreational, social and cultural programs and/or the events or festivals. You will have the opportunity to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities and/or assist in coordinating event arrangements. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia, First Aid Certificate, and a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate - Level C is required.

Willingdon, Confederation Seniors Centre, Temporary Cameron, Charles Rummel, Christine Sinclair, Edmonds Community Centre, Bonsor Recreation Complex, Youth Centres, Community Services, Access (1 to 1 program support)

Schedule:

This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on an as needed basis. Daytime and weekend availability is an asset.
