The Wellness Supports Social Work Team within Student Success and Experience (SSE) is seeking a dynamic Social Worker to join the Recovery on Campus Initiative. Reporting to the Manager, Wellness Supports Social Work Team, Health and Wellness Services (HWS), the Recovery on Campus (ROC) Coordinator works closely with Wellness Supports Social Workers and the Student Recovery Community Initiative. This role is an integral member of the interdisciplinary Health and Wellness Services mental health and wellness care team, a campus leader in harm reduction and recovery-oriented practice, and a key connector between the University of Alberta community and the University of Alberta Recovery on Campus (UAROC) program.


The ROC Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive Collegiate Recovery Program. Working collaboratively with the Wellness Supports Social Work Team and campus partners, the role focuses on expanding access to prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery supports (not limited to abstinence-based approaches), fostering a visible and supportive network of individuals with lived/living experience and allies, and strengthening partnerships across campus and the broader community.

Student Success and Experience (formerly Office of the Dean of Students) holds student support at the heart of everything we do. We provide services focused on student well-being and flourishing both in the classroom and beyond. We offer a wide range of services, including career guidance, health and wellness resources, academic support, and assistance for students facing unexpected challenges or personal difficulties. We also work closely with faculty and staff across campus to ensure students receive coordinated support when they need it most.unexpected challenges or personal difficulties. We also work closely with faculty and staff across campus to ensure students receive coordinated support when they need it most.Conduct program development and service delivery within the professional scope of social work practice, including hosting substance-free social events, facilitating peer support meetings, and coordinating recovery-focused programming. Build and maintain strong partnerships and collaborative working relationships with campus partners, community service providers, and members of the UAROC community. Contribute to campus education and awareness of a recovery continuum that is not solely abstinence-based and incorporates harm reduction principles and programming, using platforms such as websites, social media, and other communication channels. Facilitate an interdisciplinary model of care by collaborating with Student Success and Experience team members and external partners (e.g., Primary Care Alberta, Recovery Alberta), and refer students and staff to appropriate health and social services as needed. Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with relevant legislation, University policies and procedures, Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) Standards of Practice, and ROC Seed Grant requirements, to support program monitoring and evaluation. Establish and administer scholarships and awards for staff and faculty, including the development of criteria and oversight of the review and selection process. Provide brief, individual, short-term support focused on point-of-need assessment, resource navigation, and facilitated connections to appropriate campus and community services. Diploma in Social Work and/or Bachelor of Social Work degree. Demonstrates ethical integrity, program development, and collaborative leadership. Working knowledge of mental health, prevention, harm reduction, substance use and addictions, recovery-oriented practice, and community-building approaches. Lived and professional experience will be considered and are both highly valued. Membership in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), or eligibility for registration within three (3) months of the start date. Experience in frontline service delivery is considered an asset.
