OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time Reclamation Specialist. The Reclamation Specialist will be responsible for executing, analyzing and reporting on a variety of regulatory, research and novel reclamation projects Vertex conducts throughout its Canadian operations. Example projects include the development, monitoring, and analysis of: best management practices, reclamation/revegetation technologies, monitoring programs, growth chamber studies and novel disturbance/recovery models. Ideal candidates will possess a strong understanding of conservation, soil and plant interactions and environment assessments with at least 1 year field experience as well as experimental design and data analysis. A strong background in GIS and/or remote sensing is an asset. The position involves extensive field work in spring, summer and fall months. The ideal candidate will have a M.Sc. degree with 1 year of field experience; however, those with a B.Sc. degree with more than 3 years field and technical writing experience meeting all the qualifications will be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Master’s Degree in a natural resource related field (environmental science, land reclamation, forestry, biology, ecology, geology, or environmental engineering) is preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of field experience
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent statistical analysis skills
  • Ability to solve problems and innovate
  • Basic skills in geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Physically capable of completing field work in urban, rural and remote settings
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time and willingness to travel as required

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform site visits, field surveys, sample collection, and data entry
  • Support data analysis and writing of technical and scientific reports
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant local, provincial, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
  • Collaborate with team members including biologists, environmental scientists, engineers, and project managers
  • Implement and promote Vertex’s and our client’s safety program

LOCATION
This position will be based out of the Sherwood Park Alberta office, other locations will be considered depending on the candidate and preferred location.
