The primary responsibility of the Sales/Receiving Associate is to provide excellent customer service to anyone who enters the store. Remaining polite, courteous, and professional, this position will assist customers and support Stepping Stones Crisis Society fundraising efforts through social enterprises.
Responsibilities
Receive and process incoming donations in a respectful and organized manner
Sort, categorize, and assess donated items for quality, cleanliness, and suitability for sale
Price, tag, and prepare merchandise for display in accordance with established guidelines
Stock items according to established merchandising standards
Know and adhere to all federal, provincial and local government regulations regarding resale and disposal of items
Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming retail environment at all times
Handle all donations with sensitivity, recognizing the intent and value of community contributions
Ensure safety protocols are followed when lifting, moving, or sorting donated items
Maintain safe and accessible public donation drop-off zones
Assists with the movement of donations, inventory, and refuse (e.g., garbage, recycling) between store locations and storage areas, ensuring safe and efficient handling
Operate the cash register and process transactions accurately when required
Experience
Previous experience in shipping, receiving is preferred.
Ability to work all shifts, as required for the needs of the business.
Flexible availability to work various shifts as required by business operations
Demonstrates and promotes enthusiasm, initiative, and a strong commitment to the organization's mission
Friendly, outgoing, and approachable with strong interpersonal skills
Team-oriented with a willingness to collaborate and support others
Physically capable of performing all required tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English; able to follow written and verbal instructions
Politically and culturally sensitive; able to engage with clients and volunteers in a respectful, non-judgmental manner
Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, integrity and a consistently positive work attitude
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must possess a current and clear Criminal Record Check
Standard First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize effectively
Education:
Completion of high school.
Minimum of 1 year's work experience in the retail industry.
