Receiver for BFM (Grande Prairie) Enterprises Society



Mission Thrift Store is a non-profit, volunteer-driven, Christian organization with over 50 stores across Canada.



We require a cover letter

We convert donated goods into cash, and the net proceeds of all sales are sent to our joint ministry with Bible League Canada to fund international programs in over 40 countries worldwide.

Staff and volunteers believe there is a deeper purpose to everything in life, including shopping. We sell gently-used clothing and household items to value-conscious shoppers, who shop for deals they can feel good about.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION



To unload and receive donations. Distribute said goods to the proper department or area

REQUIRED COMMITMENT



In fulfilling your responsibilities, you will be required to pray with people who work or volunteer for Mission Thrift Stores. This may include but is not limited to opening in prayer at Mission Thrift Store Board and/or Staff Meetings and Mission Thrift Store events

SUPERVISOR



Your direct supervisor is the Warehouse Supervisor, then the Manager. If for some reason, you are unable to work, please let the Warehouse Supervisor know.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Primary Activities:

Receive donations, assist in the unloading of donations.

Basic sorting of donations to ascertain what department they go to.

Handle the movement of all furniture and large items to and from the sales floor.

Maintain a clean and organized receiving area, inside as well as outside.

Maintain clear aisles in the receiving and backroom area.

Organizing pick-ups and deliveries, loads to the dump and recycling.

Inspect and make decisions on donations of furniture and large items for damage and condition.

Assist customers who purchase furniture and large items. (Before loading these items check customers receipt).

Assist in loading and counting recycled bags.

Maintains a SAFE work environment.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees and volunteers.

Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Secondary Activities:

Support in other areas when required, or when drop offs are slow.

Labor and warehouse experience in a retail setting

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



Attendance at work and punctuality is an essential function of this position

Required frequently: standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching, lifting, and work in hot or cold temperatures

Working conditions: both indoors and outdoors and some Saturdays and late nights will be required

Ability to lift 20-90 pounds on a regular basis

Seasonal discomfort from working in an open-air environment

Ability to work with one's hands, handling and sorting a variety of donated items quickly and efficiently

Ability to practice flexibility and work collaboratively as a team

Working in a fast-paced shipping & receiving environment and spending a significant portion of time on one's feet

Constant handling of used goods and lifting/moving of objects and heavy unloading, loading, and lifting of furniture

Working outside in various weather conditions for significant periods of time

Ability to constantly respond "positively" to the demands/requests from management, customers, donors and fellow team members

Occasionally required to deal with the homeless, drug-addicted and/or street-involved persons
