:About UsIn business for over 50 years, Ocean Steel's Rebar Division cuts, bends and installs reinforcing steel for poured-in-placed concrete work. Ocean Steel Rebar's plant capacity is currently 10,000+ tons. Their estimating, detailing, shop scheduling, tagging and shipping is performed using a computerized production management system. Rebar is detailed using the latest CAD technology offered by Bentley Microstation/ASA to CSA, CRSI and ASTM specifications. Rebar is installed using in-house or subcontracted crews depending on the project requirements.Job SummaryReporting to the Chief Estimator, this position is responsible for identifying material, labour and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. This position requires confidence, independent action, initiative, a sense of urgency, and the ability to make decisions and take responsibility for them. The Rebar Estimator is required to prepare estimates of quantities of fabricated reinforcing bars, mesh and accessories required for projects that Ocean Rebar is preparing to offer a bid to customers in a timely manner.Responsibilities

• Performing material take-offs using ASA estimating software
• Reviewing structural and architectural drawings and specifications and preparing material take-offs
• Assisting in acquiring and coordinating information as necessary to develop an accurate quotation
• Recommending and explaining estimates to customers
• Handling drawings, sketches, addendums, specifications and preparing estimates on a regular basis
• Communicating decisions with clients (both internal and external)
• Assisting Project Mangers with change orders
• Additional duties as assigned

Technical Requirements

• Civil Engineering Technologist diploma, or equivalent
• 5 - 10 years construction experience would be ideal
• Previous experience with estimating for industrial and commercial projects
• Estimating/detailing software experience would be considered an asset
• Fluent with Microsoft Office
