Kadant Carmanah Design is a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced equipment for the Engineered Wood Products industry. We are the largest global supplier of Stranders used in the production of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and other wood-based composites.

We are currently seeking a motivated and talented Engineer to join our team as an R&D Mechanical & Controls Engineer. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design, specification, and integration of new or prototype equipment while working with cutting-edge technologies.

Responsibilities:
Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance Kadant Carmanah equipment, with a primary focus on the ongoing Smart Connected Technologies (SCT) initiative. Provide mechanical and controls engineering support for R&D projects, including collaborating with subject matter experts when outside core expertise. Assist with the mechanical integration of cameras and sensors into equipment designs. Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of prototype systems. Provide oversight and guidance to subordinate team members, such as co-op students, based on workload and project demands. Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specs, test results, and manuals. Travel to customer sites (OSB mills) to assist with installation, testing, and field support of R&D prototypes. Prepare drawings, manuals, and instructions to facilitate a seamless transition from prototype to production.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, e, or a related discipline. Familiarity with PLC systems and industrial control environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with close attention to detail. Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively in team environments. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced R&D setting. * Willingness to travel as required for field testing and customer support.
