Your role with us:

As an I-131 Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), you will ensure that systems are in place to manage radiation risks, protecting both the company's employees and the public from potential harmful effects.

Key Duties & Responsibilities



Monitor, advise and consult with respect to radiation safety issues. Review requests to ensure that the proposed handling and storage of radioactive material are in compliance. Assess the qualifications and competence of workers. Ensure that workers are adequately trained, and ensure administration and other support staff receive appropriate training. Authorize qualified employees to be designated as Nuclear Energy Workers (NEWs). Inspect and review licensed activities and safety procedures. Implement any revisions to procedures, changes to equipment/facilities and licence amendments. Ensure all incidents are reported to the CRSO, with reports prepared as directed by the CRSO. Assist CRSO and ensure the CNSC is informed immediately of all reportable incidents. Holding the authority to stop any activity that might result in regulatory non-compliance. Implement Corrective Actions and Preventative Actions (CAPAs) to address deficiencies that have been identified during inspections and audits or resulting from incidents and near misses. Dosimetry - Monitor the occupational radiation exposures received by workers, run and manage the Burlington I-131 bioassay program. Administer or control the distribution, use, and maintenance of personnel radiation monitoring devices and equipment. Review monthly and quarterly reports, compare to limits and report on exposures that seem out of normal range for individuals (even if below limits). Investigate all RS incident reports and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate the consequences or to prevent recurrences. Maintain historical data for dosimetry results and bioassays. Ensure that sealed sources are leak tested and maintain records of sealed source leak testing. Ensure monitoring instruments are calibrated. Ensure that all records and reports are prepared, maintained and submitted, as required. Participate in emergency responses to accidents and incidents. Perform air emissions monitoring for the Burlington facility and manage all associated equipment. Participate in troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment to ensure processes are ALARA. Other duties/projects, as required by the CRSO.

Qualifications and required skills



Degree in physics, radiation sciences and/or health physics, or other related science degree Excellent knowledge of instrumentation used in health physics Excellent knowledge of, and/or experience working with, volatile radionuclides such as I-131 Minimum 2 years' experience as an RSO or health physicist Proficient in all Microsoft 365 suite applications Microsoft Power Platform (SharePoint, Power Automate, Power BI, etc.) experience is an asset Knowledge and experience with MCNP, GEANT 4 or similar software is an asset Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent problem-solving skills Attention to detail Able to work flexible hours Ability to work independently and as team member Strong interpersonal skills Driver's licence
