Quality Control Technician

Job Description

Job Summary

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for implementing and monitoring the plant's quality control program according to Quality System Manual (QSM) to ensure all precast concrete products are manufactured in compliance with applicable standards (CSA and ASTM), project specifications, approved shop drawings, and internal quality procedures. The role involves inspection, testing, documentation, and coordination with production, engineering, and third-party agencies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Materials Quality Control

Verify incoming raw materials (cement, aggregates, admixtures, reinforcement, prestressing strand, inserts, and embeds) comply with approved mix designs, CSA standards, and supplier certifications Maintain material certifications, mill test reports, and batch records Monitor storage and handling of materials to prevent contamination or degradation Support the development and ongoing management of the company's Quality System Manual Complete data analysis and lead root cause investigation to identify potential issues and support continuous improvement.

2. Production Inspection

Inspect formwork, reinforcement, embeds, blockouts prior to concrete placement Confirm dimensional tolerances, reinforcement placement, concrete cover, and embed locations per shop drawings Monitor concrete placement, curing, stripping operations
3. Concrete Testing

Perform and document plastic concrete testing Prepare, cure, and test concrete cylinders or cores Track strength development and authorize stripping, and shipping based on test results Keep all the testing equipment and laboratory in organized manner
4. Curing and Finishing

Monitor curing methods Inspect surface finishes, patching, and repairs for compliance with approved repair procedures Verify cosmetic and structural acceptance prior to product release
5. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate and complete QC records, including: Batch reports Test results Inspection checklists Non-conformance reports (NCRs) Calibration Supplier certification and tests Repair Issue corrective action reports and follow up on implementation Prepare product release and shipping authorization documentation
6. Compliance and Audits

Ensure compliance with: CSA A23.1 / A23.2, CSA S6 (where applicable), Project specifications and contract documents, Quality System Manual (QSM) Support internal and external audits (e.g., CSA certification, PCI, MTO, municipal audits) Coordinate with third-party testing agencies and inspectors
7. Communication and Coordination

Liaise with production, engineering, and project management teams to resolve quality issues Notify management and engineers of record of non-conforming work Assist in continuous improvement of plant quality procedures
Qualifications

Education

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, or related field ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician or CSA equivalent
Experience

2-5 years of experience in precast concrete manufacturing or concrete construction, or concrete laboratory Familiarity with prestressed concrete is an asset
Technical Knowledge

CSA A23.1 / A23.2 concrete standards Basic understanding of structural drawings and specifications Knowledge of precast tolerances, concrete mix designs, and curing practices
Skills and Competencies

Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Ability to read and interpret shop drawings Good communication and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a production environment and on the plant floor Proficiency with basic computer applications (Excel, QC databases) Experience with or willing to learn Streak CRM Software
Working Conditions

Indoor plant environment with exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment Occasional outdoor work May require shift work, early starts, or overtime during peak production
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
